Bar weight reference
Calculated using d² ÷ 162. Select a size to use it above.
How is steel weight calculated?
Weight (kg) = d² ÷ 162 × L × N
d = nominal diameter in millimetres, L = length of one bar in metres, and N = number of bars. Feet, inches and millimetres are converted to metres before calculation. Wastage is added separately to the base weight.
Example: 10 bars of 12 mm diameter, each 12 m long = 106.67 kg. With 5% wastage, the estimated weight is 112.00 kg.
This is the practical d²/162 estimating convention used by the original calculator. It approximates circular steel mass at a density of 7,850 kg/m³. It is not an exact delivery weight, a bar bending schedule, or a check of IS compliance. Actual mass varies with manufacturing tolerances; use supplier certificates and project specifications for procurement.
