One rectangle. Two hooked ends.
Three 90° corner bends · two 135° end hooks. The adopted practical method deducts 2d per 90° bend and 3d per 135° bend.
Each hook length (straight extension) = the greater of 8d and 75 mm. Dimensions update when you calculate.

Practical site/BBS estimate using adopted bend deductions. Check a trial stirrup against the approved drawing and BBS before cutting the full quantity; actual bend radius and developed hook geometry may change the fabrication length.

Dimensions. W and D are the overall rectangular concrete member width and depth; c is uniform clear cover to the stirrup’s outside face; d is stirrup bar diameter. Outside dimensions: Ow = W − 2c and Od = D − 2c. Internal dimensions: Iw = Ow − 2d and Id = Od − 2d.
Adopted practical rectangular length. This working version follows the same explicit bend-deduction style as the circular calculator instead of the frozen Version 1 Table VIII-A allowance. Start with the outside rectangular path 2(Ow + Od), add two straight hook extensions, then deduct 2d for each of the three 90° bends and 3d for each of the two 135° hook bends.
Straight tail requirements. IS 2502:1963, clause 3.3, requires at least 8d straight extension beyond the end curve. IS 13920:2016, Amendment No. 1 (September 2017), clause 6.3.1(a) and Figure 4, specifies 8d with a 75 mm minimum for the referenced seismic link detail. Both refer to the straight extension, not the complete curved hook length. IS 2502 / IS 13920 — code book downloads
Ductile / seismic preset. The saved preset adopts T = max(8d, 75 mm). With three 90° bends and two 135° bends, the adopted estimate is L = 2(Ow + Od) + 2T − [3(2d) + 2(3d)] = 2(Ow + Od) + 2T − 12d. This practical bend-deduction equation is not printed in IS 2502 or IS 13920. The stated seismic-tail basis includes Amendment No. 1 (2017) and Amendment No. 2 (2020).
Scheduling & quantities. IS 2502:1963, clause 5.1.1, specifies the cutting length to the next greater whole 25 mm of the bending dimensions and allowances—not to the nearest 25 mm. Therefore, scheduled length = ceil(calculated length ÷ 25) × 25. This avoids scheduling a length shorter than the calculated requirement. Table XI cutting tolerance is a separate provision. Quantities and weights use the scheduled length; wastage does not change an individual stirrup’s cutting length or count.
Nominal mass. Standard diameters use IS 1786:2008 Table 1 masses: 6 mm = 0.222, 8 mm = 0.395, 10 mm = 0.617, 12 mm = 0.888, 16 mm = 1.58 kg/m. Other supported standard sizes use the same table. Nonstandard custom diameters use πd²/4 × 0.00785 kg/m, assuming steel density 7,850 kg/m³.
Scope. This tool estimates one orthogonal rectangular link with three 90° corners, two 135° hooked ends and uniform cover. The 2d/3d deductions are an adopted practical BBS convention, not a complete developed bend-arc calculation. It does not design reinforcement, choose required cover, check actual bend radius or fit around longitudinal bars, or include additional cross-ties. Verify the approved drawing, BBS, fabricator requirements and a trial stirrup before batch cutting.
